FRIDAY, MAY 12TH
Our next project will be a rustic style sign. The sign pieces will be cut from pine wood boards. You may decorate the sign using paint, stain, wood burning, or added embellishments. Once the rustic sign is complete, we will do a glass etching project. Glass etching is done by brushing on an acidic paste that corrodes the surface of the class leaving it with a frosted appearance.
You are responsible to complete the following BY THE END OF CLASS TODAY.
1: Find 6 possible ideas for the rustic sign project.
Google Search for: Rustic Signs or Wood Signs for ideas
Copy and paste images in to a Word Document or Google Doc
2. Find 6 possible ideas for the glass etching project.
Google Search: Glass Etching or Frosted Glass Design
At the end of class e-mail both documents to me: [email protected]
6 Rustic Sign Ideas = 12 Points
6 Glass Etching Ideas = 12 Points
24 Points Total
DUE TODAY, NO EXCEPTIONS!

This semester the students are beginning by working on a glass mosaic project. After creating their designs, the students are carefully cutting pieces of colored glass to fit their designs. The glass pieces will be glued to wooden boards. Once all of the pieces are secure, the students will learn to properly grout the mosaic. The grout will help hold the pieces and will also eliminate sharp edges.
We are constantly updating our program and following trends happening in the world of creation! Very popular in 2016 is the concept of "Upcycling" - the goal is to take materials that might otherwise be discarded, and to turn them into something useful or improved! Crafts I and II students have had the opportunity to explore upcycling and have been working on their own project designs.
Wood Working and Candle Making!
In this unit, the students will have the opportunity explore using both the band saw and wood burning tools. Students will create a design to burn on the wooden base for a candle they will make later. Once the wooden portion of the project is complete, students will learn to use molds to melt wax and form candles with various scents, colors, and designs.
